At Michigan Shooting Centers, safety is—and always will be—our top priority. We are proud advocates of safe, responsible firearm use and are committed to maintaining a safe and friendly environment for all visitors. Before arriving, we kindly ask that you review our range rules in full. Please note that our range staff are authorized to dismiss any individual who violates safety protocols or fails to follow established rules. In such cases, refunds will not be issued. ALWAYS TREAT EVERY FIREARM AS IF IT IS LOADED

Never point your gun at anything you do not intend to destroy. In the event of an accidental discharge, no injury can occur if the muzzle is pointed in a safe direction. A safe direction means a direction in which a bullet could not possibly strike anyone or anything you do not wish to destroy.

The safe direction while on the range – whether you are shooting, unloading or reloading your firearm – is always down range. When carrying your unloaded firearm, the safe direction is either up into the sky or down at the ground. Never point the muzzle at anyone or anything not intended as a target.

ALWAYS KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO SHOOT

Keep your fingers away from the trigger until it is your turn to shoot. Never handle a gun carelessly and assume that the gun won’t fire just because the “safety is on.”

ALWAYS KEEP YOUR FIREARM UNLOADED UNTIL READY TO SHOOT

Firearms should be loaded only when you are ready to shoot. Unload your gun immediately when you have finished shooting and well before you leave your shooting bench or station.

ALWAYS WEAR EYE AND EAR PROTECTION WHILE AT THE RANGE

All shooters and spectators must wear protective shooting glasses and some form of hearing protectors while shooting. Exposure to shooting noise can damage hearing, and adequate vision protection is essential.

  1. All shooters and spectators must wear eye and ear protection while on the range.
  2. All firearms are to be treated as if they are loaded with your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
  3. All firearms must be unloaded and cased to enter the range.
  4. Uncasing of firearms can be done only at your bench on the firing line.
  5. The muzzle of all firearms are to be pointed down-range at all times. When you arrive, situate your case at your bench so that the muzzle of your firearm is pointed down-range.
  6. Firearms are not to leave your shooting bench unless it is unloaded and cased. Do not walk around or change shooting positions with an uncased firearm.
  7. We are a slow-fire range. You may load your magazine to its full capacity, however no rapid fire or double tap is allowed. Maintain a minimum of 3 seconds between shots.
  8. Prior to target checks, all actions must be open, empty and pointed down-range.
  9. Do not cross the yellow line during a target check. If you need something from your bench during a target check, seek the assistance of a range safety officer.
  10. Drawing from a holster and open carrying are not permitted on the range.

Clay Target Shooting Rules

  1. All shooters and spectators must wear eye and ear protection while on the range.
  2. All firearms are to be treated as if they are loaded with your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
  3. Muzzles must be pointed down-range while shooting, loading and unloading.
  4. Load your firearm only when it is your time to shoot.
  5. In no circumstance shall more than two shells be loaded into your shotgun.
  6. If you are shooting with a group, only one person may be shooting at a time.
  7. While not shooting, your firearm must be unloaded with the action open and the muzzle pointed up to the sky or down to the ground.
  8. All shotgun ammunition must be clay target loads – 7.5, 8, or 9 shot. You cannot shoot buck shot or game loads (2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 shot) at clay targets.
  9. Shotguns with barrel lengths of less than 24 inches are not allowed unless it is a youth model shotgun.
